Sensei John Porta is the founder and Kancho of the Academy and is the Senior USA Representative for the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Shobukan Organization. Selected Biography of Sensei John J. Porta
      1954 Began martial arts training.
1959-66 Martial arts and weapons instructor for the United States Treasury Department.
1966 Established Porta's Karate-Do & Kobudo Academy
1974 Sensei Porta recieved degree of Bachelor of Bible Philosophy from American Bible Institute and became an ordained minister.
1984 Directed Shobukan Demonstration Group on Japanese National Television, Okinawa, Japan.
Awarded 6th Dan, Renshi by Shinjo Masanobu Sensei.
Profiled in "Who's Who in American Martial Arts" (1984-1985 Edition)
1987 Hosted Shobukan Delegation from Okinawa which included Shinjo Masanobu Sensei.
1990 Directed Shobukan Demonstration Group at the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Goju-Kai Anniversary Celebration, Okinawa, Japan.
Directed Shobukan Demonstration Group at the First Uchinanchu Festival, Okinawa, Japan.
Interviewed on Japanese National Television, Okinawa, Japan.
Awarded 7th Dan, Kyoshi by Shinjo Masanobu Sensei and appointed United States Representative for the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Shobukan Organization.
1992 Participated in the Shobukan Organization's 30th Anniversary Celebration, Okinawa, Japan.

1995 Awarded 6th Dan, Renshi, by the Zen Okinawa Kobudo Renmei, presented by Matayoshi Shimpo Sensei.
Participated in the Okinawa Karate Kobudo World Pre-Tournament, Okinawa, Japan.
1996 Received Ministerial Studies Diploma with an emphasis in youth ministries from A/G Berean University in Springfield, Missouri. Accepted position as Chaplain with the Christian Black Belt Association.
Celebrated 30th Anniversery of the founding of Porta's Karate-Do & Kobudo Academy

 1997

Sensei Porta hosted a delegation from Okinawa to the United States, which included Seizo Azuma, President of the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Shobukai.

 1998

Sensei Porta was awarded the teaching grade of "Kyoshi" by the Okinawa-Ken Karate-Do Rengo-Kai.The certification was awarded by: Norimasa Taba, organization Chairman, Meitoku Yagi, Naha-Te and Moriyoshi Itosu, Uechi-Ryu.
Sensei Porta received the 8th dan black belt in December of 1998 from the Okinawan Goju-Ryu Shobukan Association, Takushi Seiki Kancho.

 2000

Received Doctorate of Religion Sciences Honoris - Academia De Jerusalem.

 2004

Sensei Porta hosted a delegation from Okinawa which included Master Masanobu Shinjo's two sons and Takushi Seiki, President of the Okinawa Goju Ryu Shobukan Association.

 2006

Sensei Porta received the rank of 9th degree black belt with teaching grade of Hanshi awarded by the Okinawa Goju-Kai and Okinawa Goju-Ryu Shobukan Association, Okinawa, Japan, Masashi Shinjo Kancho on June 30, 2006.
